Renowned singer Wayne Wonder recently received a platinum plaque from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for his hit song No Letting Go, celebrating its platinum certification in the United Kingdom.
Originally released in 2003, No Letting Go was recorded on the iconic Diwali riddim, produced by Steven “Lenky” Marsden. The song achieved major chart success, reaching number three on the UK Singles Chart and peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The BPI certified the single platinum last October, marking sales of 600,000 units in the UK. Widely regarded as Wayne Wonder's biggest hit, No Letting Go remains a staple on pop radio in the United States and even gained prominence when Vice President Kamala Harris featured the track during her presidential campaign against Donald Trump.
By the time he recorded No Letting Go, Wayne Wonder was already an established figure in reggae music, known for hits such as Baby You and I, Saddest Day of My Life, Joy Ride, and Bonafide Love (with Buju Banton).
Reflecting on the song's lasting appeal, Wonder said,
“I wouldn’t say I’m surprised because Saddest Day was recorded 12 years before No Letting Go and is still being played. It’s a pattern.”
The BPI plaque adds to a growing list of accolades for the reggae star. On February 2, Wayne Wonder was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Island SPACE Caribbean Museum during its Reggae Genealogy show in Plantation, Florida.
His achievements will continue to be celebrated on March 30, when he receives another Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts.
