What began as a night celebrating reggae and dancehall music turned into an unforgettable moment of honor for Beenie Man, as the Jamaican superstar received two special recognitions during the Jammins Events-produced Reggae In Action concert in Hartford, Connecticut.
The celebration took place before an enthusiastic Hartford audience that made its appreciation for the legendary entertainer unmistakably clear.
During the concert, Hartford’s mayor was welcomed onto the stage and immediately called on the crowd to show its love for Beenie Man.
“Can we show some love for Beenie Man?” the mayor asked as cheers filled the venue. When the response wasn’t loud enough, the mayor encouraged Hartford to turn the energy up even higher.
Beenie Man was then invited back onto the stage for a special presentation.
Speaking on behalf of the City of Hartford and its City Council, the mayor recognized the impact Beenie Man and his music have had on people throughout the city and presented him with an official proclamation commemorating the occasion.
The recognition became even more meaningful as it coincided with celebrations surrounding Beenie Man’s birthday.
The Dancehall King responded in classic Beenie Man fashion, turning the emotional moment into music as he sang his own Jamaican-inspired rendition of the familiar “Country Roads,” proudly referencing his roots in Kingston.
The honors didn’t stop there.
Veronica Airey-Wilson, former Deputy Mayor of Hartford and a proud Jamaican, also took the stage to recognize Beenie Man and make sure the Jamaican icon understood just how much his presence meant to Hartford’s Caribbean community.
“I could not let the King of Dancehall come to Connecticut, Hartford and not show our appreciation,” Airey-Wilson told the audience, recognizing both his birthday and his international contribution to Jamaican music and culture.
Her message carried special significance as one Jamaican honored another on a major Connecticut stage.
She also made it clear that wherever Beenie Man’s career takes him next, Hartford wanted to leave him with something by which to remember the city.
The back-to-back recognitions transformed the concert into much more than another stop on Beenie Man’s performance schedule. It became a celebration of his decades-long contribution to dancehall, reggae and Jamaican culture around the world.
For Jammins Events, the presentation also represented what Reggae In Action is about: bringing major Caribbean artists to large stages while creating moments that celebrate the culture, history and influence behind the music.
Beenie Man has spent decades carrying Jamaican music across international borders, earning generations of fans along the way. On this night, Hartford had an opportunity to give some of that love back.
