When the lights dimmed and the first notes of music filled the air at the Jamaica Strong Concert in New York City, it was more than just a night of entertainment—it was a mission. A mission fueled by culture, community, and compassion. Today, that mission has come full circle in the hills of St. James, Jamaica.

Thanks to the overwhelming support of attendees, artists, and sponsors, the Jamaica Strong Concert raised over half a million dollars—funds that have now been used to restore and rebuild the James Rodlyn Basic School, a cornerstone of early childhood education in the region.

A School with Deep Roots

The James Rodlyn Basic School, located at:
Lot 181 Pitfour Boulevard, Granville PO, St. James,

is one of the oldest early childhood institutions in the parish. Sitting just three miles south of Montego Bay, the school has long served as a foundation for young learners from the communities of Granville and Pitfour, positioned right along the border that connects them.

For generations, it has been more than a school—it has been a safe space, a nurturing environment, and a launchpad for countless children’s futures.

The Impact of Hurricane Melissa

Last year, tragedy struck when Hurricane Melissa tore through the region, leaving devastation in its wake. The James Rodlyn Basic School was among the hardest hit. Classrooms were damaged, learning materials destroyed, and the structure itself left unsafe for students and teachers.

For a time, the future of the school—and the children who depended on it—hung in uncertainty.

Music with a Purpose

That’s where the power of music stepped in.

The Jamaica Strong Concert, produced by Jammins Events, Irie Jam Foundation, and Roadblock Radio, was created with one goal: to rally the diaspora and supporters worldwide to give back to Jamaica in a meaningful way.

The response was nothing short of extraordinary.

With over $500,000 raised, the funds were directed toward rebuilding efforts, ensuring that the James Rodlyn Basic School could not only reopen—but thrive again.

Rebuilding More Than Walls

Today, the school stands renewed.

Classrooms have been restored. Learning spaces have been revitalized. Most importantly, the laughter and energy of children have returned—bringing life back to a place that means so much to its community.

This is more than a construction story. It’s a story about resilience, unity, and what happens when a community—both local and global—comes together with purpose.

A Testament to Community Power

The success of this initiative highlights the true impact of collaboration:

  • Jammins Events – Driving vision and execution
  • Irie Jam Foundation – Championing cultural and community support
  • Roadblock Radio – Amplifying the message to the world

Together, they transformed a night of music into a lasting legacy.

Looking Ahead

The rebuilding of the James Rodlyn Basic School is just the beginning. It serves as a reminder that when we invest in our communities—especially in education—we invest in the future.

Jammins Events remains committed to creating experiences that not only entertain but empower, uplift, and make a real difference.

Because sometimes, the biggest impact doesn’t end when the music stops—it begins there.

A Community Effort That Made a Difference

Special thanks to all supporters who made this possible, including the incredible team at UBS Arena for their dedication and support throughout the event.

We extend our deepest appreciation to Ann-Marie Grant and the American Foundation for The University of the West Indies (AFUWI) for their commitment to education and community development.

Together, we turned music into impact—and restored hope for the children of St. James.
