Reggae’s 2027 GRAMMY Race Expands With a Reported Record 119 Album Entries

Reggae and dancehall are heading into a crowded awards season. World Music Views reports that 119 albums have been submitted for Best Reggae Album consideration at the 2027 GRAMMY Awards, describing the total as a category record. Reggaeville separately reports the same number of valid entries, compared with 73 for the previous awards cycle. That represents 46 additional albums—an increase of approximately 63 percent.

The reported field brings together established stars, veteran performers, and contemporary voices. However, these are entries for consideration: official nominations have yet to be announced.

Among the prominent artist-and-album pairings reported by World Music Views and listed by Reggaeville are:

ArtistAlbum
Vybz KartelGod and Time
Buju BantonToo Too Bad
Ziggy MarleyBrightside
Beenie ManEminence
Burning Spear & FriendsCall on Me (Live)
CapletonHeights of Fire
ChronixxExile

These releases are part of the reported consideration field, rather than a confirmed nominee lineup.

Dancehall’s participation is another development to watch. In a separate analysis, World Music Views identifies 22 dancehall and dancehall-influenced projects, approximately 18.5 percent of the reported field. Its list includes Masicka’s Forever Reign, Alkaline’s NPT, Shaggy’s Lottery, and projects by Ayetian, Armaniii, Nhance, and Rajahwild. That classification belongs to the publication; it is not a separate GRAMMY category.

For listeners, the expanded field offers a reason to explore beyond familiar names. For artists and their teams, it means more releases are seeking voters’ attention. The entry count demonstrates greater participation in this awards cycle, although it does not, by itself, establish growth in sales, streaming, or audience size.

The distinction between submission and nomination matters. The Recording Academy explains that entries undergo eligibility and category screening before voting. First-round voting determines the nominees; a later round selects the winners. An album’s appearance in a “For Your Consideration” campaign therefore does not make its artist a 2027 GRAMMY nominee.

The Academy’s confirmed schedule sets the next milestones:

  • October 12–22, 2026: First-round voting.
  • November 16, 2026: Official nominations announced.
  • December 10, 2026–January 7, 2027: Final-round voting.
  • February 7, 2027: GRAMMY Awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

With the reported field spanning several generations of reggae and dancehall, November’s announcement will reveal which releases turn consideration into nominations. Until then, fans have an opportunity to listen, compare, and discover the music behind the campaigns.

Reporting note: The 119-entry total and its record designation are attributed to World Music Views, with the count also reported by Reggaeville. The Recording Academy sources reviewed confirm the voting process and dates, but do not independently establish the category total or historical record.
