Reggae legend Gregory Isaacs, affectionately known as the Cool Ruler, is now the focus of a moving stage tribute. The Cool Ruler: The Musical brings his unforgettable voice, style, and story to the theater stage, blending live performance and drama to honor the man behind some of reggae’s most timeless songs.
Produced with the support of the Gregory Isaacs Foundation, in association with Bagga John Productions, the show goes beyond the music to share Isaacs’ journey — from his early years in Kingston to his rise as one of reggae’s most iconic figures. It captures both his career milestones and the personal struggles that shaped his legacy, offering audiences a heartfelt look at the artist behind the legend.
At its core, the production is powered by Isaacs’ catalog, with a live band and featured performers bringing classics like Night Nurse, Soon Forward, and Cool Ruler to life. The music is interwoven with theatrical storytelling, creating an experience that is equal parts concert and drama.
Directed by Anthon Phillips, the play benefits from the guidance of Isaacs’ widow June Isaacs and his longtime manager Copeland Forbes, ensuring that every detail reflects his artistry with authenticity and respect.
On February 27th, The Cool Ruler: The Musical comes to the Tri-State area through Jammins Events, giving fans in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut a special opportunity to celebrate Gregory Isaacs’ music and legacy on stage.
Gregory Isaacs was more than a reggae singer — he was a cultural voice whose songs defined an era. The Cool Ruler: The Musical keeps his legacy alive, introducing his story to new generations while giving longtime fans a chance to honor the “Cool Ruler” in a setting as grand as his influence.
