Jamaica may be a small island, but when it comes to talent, the country continues to make an enormous impact around the world.
Team Jamaica delivered another proud moment for the nation after an outstanding showing at the 2026 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA), returning from the international competition with an incredible 42 medals and awards.
The championships, held in Las Vegas from July 13–21, 2026, brought together performers from around the world to compete in categories including music, dance, acting, modeling and other performing arts. WCOPA describes its international competition as an Olympic-style event for aspiring entertainers and performers.
And Jamaica showed up ready to compete.
Team Jamaica finished the championships with 18 gold medals, 16 silver medals and four bronze medals, inclusive of divisional awards.
Jamaican performers also captured four divisional championships, awarded to competitors who earned the highest scores in their respective categories and age divisions.
The Jamaican team consisted of 20 competitors, including 10 solo acts and two groups. They represented the island across vocals, dance, acting, modeling and instrumental music.
Even more impressive, six Jamaican acts advanced to the Finale — three juniors and three seniors — marking the largest number of Jamaican finalists since Antonio Dennis became Team Jamaica’s National Director.
Among Jamaica’s biggest victories was the remarkable performance of Montego Bay pianist Nathan Smith.
Smith didn’t simply earn a medal. He walked away with the prestigious title of Senior Instrumentalist of the World, becoming Jamaica’s only World Title winner at the 2026 championships.
Trained at Western Tutorial Music Studio, Smith advanced farther than any other Jamaican competitor at this year’s championships.
His victory is another reminder of the incredible musical talent Jamaica continues to produce generation after generation.
Another unforgettable chapter in Jamaica’s WCOPA journey came from PAH! Deaf Dance Company.
The group was the only Deaf dance company competing at the 2026 championships, and they made their presence felt in a major way.
PAH! captured two gold medals, earning top honors for an Ethnic Dance performance and an Open–Dancehall Dance performance. The group also advanced through the Semi-Finals and into the Finale.
The achievement carries an even greater message about inclusion and opportunity.
The performers competed under the same standards as everyone else, relying in part on vibrations from the music to execute their choreography. Their success showcased not only Jamaican dance culture but what can happen when talented performers are given opportunities to compete on the biggest stages.
Jamaica’s WCOPA success also created opportunities beyond the competition itself.
Several Jamaican performers earned scholarships and professional development opportunities.
Jayla Hutchinson received a New York Film Academy scholarship valued at US$20,000 per year toward a degree program. Arya Chin earned a 25-percent scholarship toward a New York Film Academy Short Term Youth Camp as well as a consultation with Grammy-winning producer Jeff Webber.
Savannah Steele also received a 25-percent discount toward a NYFA youth camp, while PAH! Deaf Dance Company received a US$250 dance scholarship award toward continued dance education.
Those opportunities could become an important next chapter for performers hoping to turn their talent into professional careers.
For decades, Jamaica has punched far above its weight on the international stage.
From Reggae and Dancehall to athletics, fashion, film, dance and popular culture, Jamaican influence can be found almost everywhere.
The country’s performance at WCOPA 2026 adds another accomplishment to that legacy.
42 medals and awards.
18 gold medals.
Six Finale acts.
Four divisional champions.
And one Senior Instrumentalist of the World.
Those numbers represent much more than trophies. Behind them are young Jamaican singers, musicians, actors, dancers and performers who trained, sacrificed and traveled internationally carrying the black, green and gold with them.
WCOPA Jamaica’s official roster lists competitors including Nathan Smith, Arya Chin, Jayla Hutchinson, Je’Rard Hall, Kyla Nightingale, Natasia Streete, Savannah Steele, Sebastian Steele, Yewande Milligan, Liberty Learning Centre Drum Ensemble and PAH! Deaf Dance Company among Team Jamaica’s 2026 contingent.
Their accomplishments send another powerful message to the world:
Never underestimate Jamaican talent.
The island isn’t just producing stars.
It’s producing world champions.
