Rajindra Campbell continues his sensational season with another historic performance, launching a massive 23.08m in the men’s shot put!

Campbell improved his own Jamaican National Record for the third time this season, while also setting a Diamond League Record and taking the World Lead!

Jamaica’s Rajindra Campbell has delivered one of the greatest performances in shot put history, launching an incredible 23.08 metres to win the men’s shot put at the 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels, Belgium.

Campbell produced the historic throw on Saturday, September 5, at King Baudouin Stadium, capturing the Diamond Trophy, setting another Jamaican national record, establishing a Diamond League meeting record, and taking the 2026 world lead.

And he did it in dramatic fashion.

Campbell opened the competition with a massive 22.25m, a distance that ultimately would have been enough to win the event. He then raised the stakes in the second round, throwing 22.62m to break his own Jamaican national record.

But the Jamaican powerhouse wasn’t finished.

On his sixth and final attempt, Campbell exploded with the throw of his career — 23.08m.

The performance immediately placed Campbell among the greatest shot putters the sport has ever seen. His 23.08m moved him to No. 4 on the all-time world list, behind only Americans Ryan Crouser (23.56m), Joe Kovacs (23.23m) and Randy Barnes (23.12m). Campbell also became just the fifth man in history to surpass the prestigious 23-metre barrier.

A Sensational 2026 Season

Campbell’s rise throughout 2026 has been remarkable.

He extended Jamaica’s national record to 22.34m in Xiamen in May, improved it to 22.44m in Zagreb in June, and then reached 22.59m in Brescia, Italy, on August 30.

Less than a week later in Brussels, he shattered the record twice more — first with 22.62m and then with the enormous 23.08m.

The Olympic bronze medallist defeated a world-class field in the Diamond League Final, with American Jordan Geist finishing second at 22.23m and two-time world champion Joe Kovacs taking third with 22.09m.

Campbell said there had been signs in training that a huge performance was coming and described crossing 23 metres as an important milestone for any elite shot putter. But he also made it clear that he believes he can throw even farther.

His ultimate target?

The world record.

Ryan Crouser currently owns that mark at 23.56m, meaning Campbell’s historic Brussels throw leaves him just 48 centimetres away from the greatest recorded throw in men’s shot put history.

For Jamaica, Campbell’s achievement represents another major chapter in the country’s growing success beyond the sprint events for which it is traditionally famous. He also joined former discus star Fedrick Dacres as the only Jamaicans to win a Diamond Trophy in a throwing event.

At 30 years old and seemingly entering the strongest period of his career, Rajindra Campbell has gone from Jamaican record-breaker to one of the greatest shot putters the world has ever seen.
