Oblique Seville Flies to 9.90 and Captures First Diamond League 100m Championship

Jamaica has another reason to celebrate on the international stage.

Oblique Seville delivered another electrifying performance on Friday, September 4, racing to victory in the men’s 100 meters at the 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels, Belgium.

The Jamaican speedster crossed the finish line in 9.90 seconds, capturing the first Diamond League championship of his career and adding another major achievement to his growing résumé.

Seville Powers Past the Competition

It wasn’t the perfect start for Seville, but that didn’t matter.

American sprinter Christian Coleman got out quickly, but Seville began closing the gap as the race developed. Once the Jamaican hit top speed, he surged through the field and took command before powering across the finish line.

Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme finished close behind in 9.93 seconds, while Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi took third in 9.97. Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy also broke the 10-second barrier with a 9.99 fourth-place finish.

For Seville, the victory was particularly significant because it marked his first Diamond League 100m title. It also placed him alongside some legendary Jamaican names.

Seville became just the fourth Jamaican man to win the Diamond League 100m championship, joining Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell and Ackeem Blake.

Jamaica Continues to Shine on the World Stage

Seville’s victory comes as he continues to establish himself as one of the biggest stars in international track and field.

Those performances extended an impressive streak for Jamaica: the country has now produced at least one Diamond League trophy winner for 16 consecutive years.
